12 candidates throw their names in the ring for Busuttil, Portelli’s seat

A total of five candidates have submitted their nominations for the casual election being held on the twelfth district while seven candidates have submitted their nominations for the casual election on the ninth district, the Electoral Commission has announced.

Two casual elections are being held on Tuesday after former Opposition Leader and Partit Nazzjonalista leader Simon Busuttil and MP Marthese Portelli resigned from their seats. Busuttil and Portelli were elected in the 2017 snap general election on the twelfth district and ninth district respectively.

Nominations closed on Saturday afternoon.

In a statement the Electoral Commission said that it received nominations from Simone Aquilina, Graziella Galea, Edward Torpiano, David Thake and Sam Abela.

A total of seven nominations were presented for the casual election on the ninth district. The nominations were submitted by Alan Abela Wadge, Graziella Attard Previ, Ivan Bartolo, Roselyn Borg Knight, Albert Buttigieg, Noel Muscat and Charles Selvaggi.

The casual elections will be held on Tuesday 10 March at the Counting Hall Complex in Naxxar. The counting will begin at 11am.
