The Labour Party only expelled disgraced former minister Konrad Mizzi when it was left with no other choice, Nationalist Party MP Ryan Callus said on Wednesday morning.
Speaking during parliamentary debate on the financial estimates of the Lands Authority, Callus insisted that had Mizzi been expelled 4 years ago – when he was found to have a secret account in Panama – Daphne Caruana Galizia would still be alive.
“You have never acted against corruption, and had to learn the hard way. Mizzi was removed four years too late, not because you wanted to, but because you had no choice,” the MP said.
Callus lamented that if the government had at least acknowledged that the opposition had been right on this one point, it would have been more worthy of the position it occupied, and would have shown far more respect to its voters.
