Minister Farrugia in Rome for 5+5 meeting

The Home Affairs and National Security Minister Michael Farrugia, has reaffirmed Malta’s commitment to dealing with the threats and challenges affecting the Mediterreanean region.

Speaking at the annual 5+5 Defence Ministerial meeting in Rome, he told Ministers that Malta would maintain, ‘an active role in countering the various threats in the Mediterranean such as violent extremism, hatred and terrorism and organised transnational crime’.

The country would continue to participate, ‘in joint operations, projects and financial support as well as resettlement of persons under the applicable international and EU frameworks.’

Minister Farrugia also took part in a discussion on the illegal migration, insisting that EU institutions have the information and means to help countries create the approach required to deal with migration flows in the Mediterranean.
