Serie A side AC Milan have donated €250,000 to AREU, the agency that is handling health emergencies in the Lombardy region. Italy is the worst-hit country after China and its coronavirus death toll jumped from 366 to 463 on Monday. To football fans’ dismay, yesterday Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte communicated that all sporting events, including football matches, are suspended nationwide.
In a statement published on AC Milan’s official website, the club’s CEO Ivan Gazidis stated:
“There are things in life more important than football. At a time when all of us need to take care of the most vulnerable amongst us, we must all act with the utmost responsibility and listen to the advice of the relevant authorities. On behalf of the club, I am proud to support the incredible efforts of our region’s emergency response teams with this donation.”
