Migrants escape from Marsa Detention centre

Police are searching for a group of migrants that escaped from Marsa detention centre yesterday evening.

The Times of Malta reports that up to 10 migrants were reported absent from the facility between 7.30 and 8PM last night, according to their sources.

Newsbook.com.mt reached out to the police for more information but was unable to obtain any further information or updates on the circumstances.

The detention centre currently holds several hundred migrants that have been disembarked in Malta following transfers from migrant rescue vessels. They are now awaiting movement to fellow EU member states as per agreements.

In recent weeks, migrants held in the Safi detention centre have been protesting their freedom.
