PN MEP Roberta Metsola is not ruling out a leadership bid in the wake of the party’s general council’s decision to call for a leadership election against the wishes of its embattled leader Adrian Delia.
In a reaction to the vote on Facebook, the MEP said that she was considering all possible options and excluding nothing, stating that she was willing to contribute whenever required.
However, she also emphasised that this was not a time for personal ambitions, but to work in the best interest of the party and the country.
“In these coming hours, we will need to discuss where we are heading more than where we will be starting from,” Metsola said. “I wish to see the path to a serious, strong and credible party that includes everyone to be created through respect and deep discussion, so that we can immediately start to work towards unity and to heal our wounds.”
Metsola has been widely considered to be one of the leading candidates to succeed Delia, who has confirmed that he will also be taking part in the leadership election.
A few days ago, she laid out her vision for the PN and for the country in an article published on the Times of Malta, arguing that “we change or we die.”
