MEP questions EC whether it will investigate Ryanair’s hand-luggage policy

MEP Alfred Sant has asked the European Commission on its plans to follow up on the Italian Competition Authority’s investigation on Ryanair’s baggage policy and if it also has plans to carry investigations also on other carriers following the same baggage policy system.

In September the Italian Competition Authority announced the opening of an investigation on Ryanair’s amended carry-on hand luggage policy. The Authority is accusing Ryanair of unfair commercial practices as it distorts the final price of the ticket and does not allow for a true comparison with airline prices.

Customers are now being allowed to carry with them a small bag or a laptop bag but will have to pay for a 10kg carry-on hand luggage.
