In their latest daily update on his condition, the police have confirmed that state witness Melvin Theuma’s condition remains stable as he continues receiving treatment at Mater Dei’s ITU.
Theuma sustained critical injuries at his residents on Tuesday night, with the police concluding that they appeared to be self-inflicted.
The self-confessed middleman in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, who received a presidential pardon to reveal information which has led to the arraignment of then-Tumas Group CEO Yorgen Fenech, has been left unable to speak as a result of the injuries sustained.
However, the Times of Malta has reported that he wrote a note from his hospital bed to confirm that he stabbed himself, out of remorse for his role in the assassination and because the evidence he was giving was being put in doubt.
Theuma also reportedly used hand gestures to help answer questions made by Magistrate Astrid May Grima, who is leading an inquiry into the incident.
