The middleman involved in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, Melvin Theuma, is now out of the Intensive Care Unit (ITU), having been transferred to the Ears, Nose and Throat ward (ENT).
This was announced in a statement issued by the Police regarding the current condition of Theuma. The Police added that his conditions remained stable, which is why he was moved out of the ITU. This comes following Theuma’s alleged suicide attempt in these past weeks.
On the 21st of July, Theuma was found in his bedroom with injuries to his throat and torso after attempting to commit suicide. On Saturday, the Times of Malta reported that Theuma had convinced investigators that it really was a suicide attempt, and it was also reported that Theuma had communicated his two reasons to duty Magistrate Astrid May Grima. According to the Times, Theuma had said that he feels great remorse for the assassination, and that he is upset about not being believed.
Theuma is not able to speak, and when asked whether this was an attempted murder, could only point a finger downwards to indicate the answer no. He said that those who don’t believe him are laughing at him.
