Melvin Theuma, the middleman in the Daphne Caruana Galizia assassination who received a presidential pardon to turn state’s evidence, has been discharged from hospital after undergoing heart surgery, the police have confirmed.

Theuma had been hospitalised last Saturday after complaining of chest pains.

Tests confirmed that one of his arteries had narrowed and that he required a stent.

In their statement, the police emphasised that Theuma’s hospitalisation was not linked to his previous stint in hospital. He had been admitted to Mater Dei Hospital on 21 July after being found with multiple stab wounds, which police have determined were self-inflicted.
