The Malta Health Students’ Association said that health care students should be at the same priority level as health workers when it comes to Covid-19 vaccination. This is since students perform placement duties at the hospital side by side the front liners and the other health care professionals.

The MHSA said that they have received any communication neither from the relevant Health Authorities and from the Ministry for Health.

Students within our Faculty have not stopped attending placements ever since restrictions were being lifted in June. Students stepped up their responsibility, by working in swabbing hubs and by working as trainees in state hospitals. Moreover, students repeatedly have had to leave home, and quarantine themselves for the sake of family members especially if they live with vulnerable people. Students have also contracted Covid-19 due to being exposed to positive patients whilst on placement” said MHSA.

The students’ representatives called upon the Ministry for Health to take immediate action and assure the students to be vaccinated together with the other front liners.

Do you agree that students should receive the jab with the frontliners?
