In one of the most significant media events a country goes through, a Prime Ministerial swearing-in, the media – except for the state broadcaster – was kept out. The oath of office of Robert Abela had to be followed on screens well away from the main source of action – in the courtyard of the Palace. The Swearing-In takes place in the Ambassadors’ Room, predominantly in Red and one of the main rooms of the palace some two stories above.
Asked for a reason for this exile, the spokesperson said the palace was undergoing major restoration and accessibility to the Ambassadors’ room was restricted. However, dozens of Palace staff and other non-palace personnel were lining the corridors to greet Abela.
