Measles cases reported locally

Superintendent of Public Health Dr. Charmaine Gauci is asking all parents to ensure that their children have been properly vaccinated, as there is the fear of a measles outbreak.

Five cases involving adults have been reported to have contracted the disease while abroad, whilst one adult is reported to have been infected locally.

Dr Gauci has appealed to all parents to make sure that their children took both vaccines protecting them from measles when they were younger.

Missing vaccines are being supplied free of charge from the Health Department.

Dr. Gauci also stressed how important it is for adults to make sure that they have immunity, and if in doubt to also make use of the free service at the Health Department.

There has been a spread of the contagious disease across a number of other countries, including France, Greece,  Italy and the United Kingdom.
