Angry scenes outside Parliament as PM, Ministers heckled as they exit

MInistry staff confront Newsbook journalist while IGM reacts strongly

While the Prime Minister was making a reminiscent speech in PArliament in which he gave details, already in the public domain, on the steps which had led to the apprehension of Yorgen Fenech as accomplice in the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, protestors gathered outside calling for his immediate departure. To chants of “Shame on You” and “Mafia” the MPs filed out of parliament in seach of their car, silent and seemingly oblivious of the angry crowd, ignoring the calls for comments by the media.

As journalist tried to get comments from the exiting MPs, ministry staff confronted the journalist and had to be restrained by the police. The management of condemned the angry confrontation, adding that the journlist was doing her duty as is the norm in a democratic society.

Meanwhile, the Institute of Maltese Journalists protested strongly at the attack made on journalists outside Parliament and outside the PL headquarters in Hamrun. The IGM said that while the Police stopped the incidents from escalating, it can never accept that journalists on duty are not only obstructed but also hurt.

The IGM appealed for calm and appealed for police protection as well as taking the necessary steps against whoever breaks the law. The IGM expressed solidarity with all the journalists on duty in these difficult times.
