MCAST could be breaking the law

Following MCAST’s announcement that a new MCAST Ombudsman will be appointed, Article 28 (1) (2) of the Maltese Ombudsman Act says that no-one can be referred to as an Ombudsman without the consent of the Official Ombudsman.

The Ombudsman Act also states that whoever breaks this law could be fined €230.

Recently, MUT has expressed its concern over this turn of events, since it said that no-one who is currently employed by MCAST could serve as an MCAST Ombudsman because of the lack of transparency and autonomy.

Furthermore, MUT continued by saying that there is currently already an official Educational Ombudsman.
