Despite MCAST lecturer’s worries about 2018 arrears, Newsbook.com.mt is informed that these should be sent to them by the end of January.
This was confirmed by the President of the Malta Union for Teachers (MUT) Marco Bonnici who said that, during a meeting with MCAST management, they were assured that the arrears will be released this month according to the initial agreement.
A Source close to MCAST spoke with Newsbook.com.mt worried that there was a chance these funds wouldn’t arrive according to the agreement, and that they would receive them in 2020. The source explained that the Collective Agreement for MCAST lecturers expired on the 31st December 2018 and the new Agreement was signed in July 2018. He said that lecturers received arrears for their 2017 pay in September 2018, and that they were promised that the difference in the 2018 pay should be settled with their January 2019 salary.
Meanwhile, in the last few days Newsbook.com.mt also spoke about credit cards for resources which lecturers were given without any funds in them. Yesterday it was said that they would be receiving these funds in the near future after MCAST and the MUT agreed on the policy in a meeting.
