Mater Dei Hospital Chief Executive Officer Ivan Falzon confirmed with Newsbook.com.mt that the area outside of the emergency department always allowed a maximum of 1 hour short-term parking.
Falzon also said that the drop-off /pick-up zone outside the conforms with other setups found in foreign hospitals. He also said that there are instances where special parking concessions are allowed for the use of the parking are in front of the emergency department. This has also been confirmed by a member of the public who posted a ‘special permit’ on Facebook that allowed for a 4-hour window.
In August a new contractor took charge of the hospital’s parking facilities and new tariffs had been introduced for visitors using the parking areas at Mater Dei. In June a Mater Dei employee that wishes to stay anonymous told Newsbook.com.mt that she was has to pay around €50 a month to park her vehicle at the hospital even though she is a single-mother of three on a monthly salary of €950.
