Maria Louisa Scicluna was awarded the 2019 National Prize for Voluntary Work for her 22 years of service with the OASI Foundation, which she also founded a support group of 60 volunteers for.

Also known as Marisa, the Gozitan started lending a hand to OASI Foundation in 1997, mainly in administration and in solidarity services for the families. Apart from founding a support group of 60 volunteers, she regularly organises and manages meetings with the members, as well as organising several events, such as bazaars, Zumba, and bake sales.

The ceremony took place at the President’s Palace in Sant’Anton Gardens and was organised by the Maltese Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS) under the patronage of President George Vella.

The President praised the work done by the OASI Foundation and the hundreds of services it offers for free on a daily basis. He appealed to the public to involve itself more in voluntary organisations, as according to him, these help bring people together and help remove solitude from our lives.
