Ten employees from MAPFRE Group volunteered some of their spare time to help out at Dar Papa Franġisku. MAPFRE Group has also pledged to continue their sponsorship of similar initiatives throughout 2019.
The home provides provides meals and temporary shelter to persons going a crisis in their life. These include amongst others individuals whose life’s misfortunes had made them homeless.
Dar Papa Franġisku is situated in Fleur-de-Lys Road in Birkirkara. Persons experiencing difficulties in their lives, or who feel lonely or lack the basic necessities such as food and a place for shelter, are referred to the home.
The shelter is open 24/7 and guarantees a well-balanced meal on a daily basis. It has around 20 beds, and accommodates both men and women. There are also 36 seats to accommodate those who visit the house just for their daily meal.
Dar Papa Franġisku is run by Caritas in partnership with the Government and the Alfred Mizzi Foundation. The 10 full time care workers at the Dar Papa Franġisku have been trained in similar homes models that Caritas have in Rome so that they are able to assist in the best way possible those in need.
MAPFRE Group employees have been helping in the kitchen and serving food to the needy. Jessica Deguara, Headof Management Control at MAPFRE Middlesea said that “It was a memorable experience to give a helping hand at Dar Papa Franġisku. Such experience made us realise how much we should appreciate and be thankful for what we have.”
