A 30 year old man from Ħal Għaxaq who is currently serving time in prison for fraud has had his sentence reduced.
The Court had found the accused guilty and sentenced him to 30 months in prison. However, the Appeal concluded that although the man is guilty of fraud, he was not found guilty of increasing his assets at the expense of another person.
The perpetrator had confessed to frauding €3,400 from his friend in order to undergo an operation.
The Magistrate sentenced the man to two years imprisonment, together with the condition that he is to pay back the €3,400 within three years.
In an unrelated case, the same person was sentenced nine years in prison for scamming around 100 clients. He had collected deposits for cars he was supposed to import from the United Kingdom. However, the cars never arrived. Moreover, he was also found guilty of using a fake cheque to buy a luxurious watch.
