A man lost his life after he fell into the sea at Exiles in Sliema. The incident happened around 4.20pm on Wednesday. The police were informed that a 26-year-old from Ukraine residing at St Julian’s fell into the sea while two other men aged 26 and 25 also Ukrainian residing in St Julian’s jumped into the water to help the man. However due to bad weather and high waves the two men did not manage to reach the man.
In a statement the police said that the ambulance was called on site that took the two men to hospital where they were given medical assistance. The Armed Forces of Malta were asked to assist in help finding the man who had fallen into the water. The man was found by AFM however he was certified dead shortly afterwards.
The two men who had sought to assist the man were certified of suffering from light injuries.
Duty Magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace was appointed to the inquiry and has appointed various experts to help in the investigation.
The police are investigating the case.
