A 43-year-old man was charged with manslaughter in a court in Gozo on Wednesday.
The Norwegian man who resides in Ta’ Kerċem, was charged with causing the death of a woman and injuring four other persons by driving negligently.
The accident happened on August 16 on Triq l-Imġarr in Għajnsielem. A 41-year-old Latvian woman had died as a consequence of the accident six days later, while a 47-year-old American man who resides in Swieqi, a German man aged 51 who resides in Xagħra and two boys aged 9 and 14 were grievously injured. A 45-year-old Canadian woman, a 36-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy residing in Nadur suffered slight injuries in the accident.
The man was also accused of driving under the influence of alcohol and for overspeeding, as well as causing damage to another vehicle.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him and was granted bail subject to a number of conditions.
Magistrate Paul Coppini presided over the court in Gozo.
