Two patients die of coronavirus

Two men have died after contracting coronavirus on Monday, the health authorities announced in two separate statements.

The first death was reported at 9.40am while the second death was reported at 2.45pm.

The first case is that of 98-year-old man who was a resident at an elderly home. He had tested positive on 6 September when he was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital.

The nonagenarian had underlying health conditions, the health authorities said.

The second man was an 83-year-old who was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital on 16 September.

The pandemic has claimed 23 lives.

Four coronavirus-related deaths were reported over the weekend. A man who died on Sunday was also a resident at an elderly care home.

On Sunday, the health authorities reported 32 new coronavirus cases bringing the total number of active cases up to 664.

The health ministry sent its condolences to the family, and appealed for everyone to observe the Covid-19 guidelines.
