Man accused of killing Chantelle Chetcuti granted bail

The man charged with the murder of Chantelle Chetcuti has been granted bail by Magistrate Rachel Montebello. The alleged aggressor, Justin Borg, 34, is the victim’s former partner. The murder took place in Triq il-Kbira, Żabbar, in February.

Magistrate Montebello said that there is no evidence that the accused does not satisfy the bail conditions.

Justin Borg was granted bail against a deposit of €25,000 a personal guarantee of €20,000. He will also have to sign the bail book daily and will not be allowed to go out between 8pm and 5am.

Chantelle Chetcuti was stabbed several times in the upper torso and once in the temple, and was left lying unconscious on the ground after the attack for some time.

In February, Borg was accused of Chetcuti’s murder. He was also accused of carrying a knife during the commission of a crime against the person, of carrying a knife without the necessary permit, being in possession of cocaine and breaching public peace.

Justin Borg gave himself to the Police sometime after the attack when he entered the Floriana Police Headquarters.
