Man accused of grievously injuring a shop owner denied bail

Abd Al Salam el Adaw Mahmud, 44, from Palestina residing in St Paul’s Bay was accused today of having assaulted and slightly injured a shop owner, Wagih Yousseff Awad in an incident yesterday morning.

Police Inspector Godwin Scerri said the accident happened on Sunday 28th June at around 9:30 am in Isoard Street St Paul’s Bay. He said that Adaw Mahmud went into Awad’s shop, started arguing and the accused ended beating the man up using a pointed and sharp instrument.

The victim suffered from grievous injuries and is still being treated in hospital. The Police said that the accident was caught on CCTV cameras.

Another court case where Abd Al Salam el Adaw Mahmud is being accused of having assaulted another person is still pending.

The accused pleaded not guilty. A bail request was denied by Magistrate Donatello Frendo Dimech.
