Maltese ministers meet with Libyan president, ministers in Tripoli

Minister for Foreign Affairs Evarist Bartolo together with Interior Minister Byron Camilleri visited Tripoli for meetings with President Fayez el-Sarraj and Ministers Mohammed Siyala, Fathy Bashaga and Salahedin Namroush, as well as with other political and security figures.

In a statement, the Maltese government said that in Tripoli, the ministers discussed how to strengthen cooperation in the commercial, social and security fields.

They also conveyed the message in favour of peace and stability in Libya, united and led for the good of all Libyans.

Several meetings have been held between Maltese and Libyan bodies in 2020.

This October, Minister Bartolo renewed Malta’s commitment towards Libya as a neighbouring country. Bartolo continued to hold meetings with the Libyan government in August.

In July, President of the Libyan Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord Faiez Mustafa Serraj met with Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela in Castille.

Earlier in May, Malta and Libya signed a memorandum of understanding on migration. This was revealed after reports emerged of an unannounced visit by to Libya earlier during the day.
