Maltese-flagged oil tanker suffers terrorist attack

A Maltese-flagged oil tanker suffered an terrorist attack at a Saudi Arabian terminal on the Red Sea just north of the Yemeni border.

According to international reports, it was struck about one meter above the waterline and suffered a breach. The Athens-based company, TMS Tankers, said that the crew are safe with no injuries, and no pollution has been reported. The vessel is also stable.

The company said the vessel was attacked by an unknown source while at berth in Shuqaiq in Saudi Arabia after it had completed discharging and was preparing to depart.

The attack

Saudi Arabia confirmed the attack, and without naming the vessel, said that the incident occurred when an explosives-laden boat launched by Yemen’s Huthi rebels was intercepted and destroyed.

Therefore, the vessel was damaged with shrapel, according to the Saudi-led military coalition on Saudi television.
