Maltese authorities silent on documents handover – Casa

UAE passed 17 Black documents in November

MEP David Casa said that documents from the United Arab Emirates regarding 17 Black have been handed over to Maltese authorities on 22 November. In a tweet, the EPP MEP said that “I have been made aware that #17Black documentation and info requested by MT authorities from UAE were handed over on 22 November 2020. Complete silence from our authorities – no more excuses left to keep delaying criminal action against those connected to cesspit of corruption” .

17 Black is the Dubai registered company owned by Yorgen Fenech, suspected of complicity in the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia. The documents are important in the case since Panama companies owned by Mizzi and Schembri stood to receive payments from 17 Black.

David Casa’s tweet follows the statement made by Mohamed Abushahab, the Emirates ambassador to the European Union was quoted as saying that the authorities of his country will be passing the information imminently to their Maltese counterparts back in November. Maltese authorities have been silent about the matter till now not releasing information if the documents have been received.
