Malta sees 18.3% increase in air passengers in 2017

Air passenger transport for Malta went up by 18.3% between 2016 and 2017, according to Eurostat, which brings the total number of air passengers up to 6,008,000.

2017 was a record-breaking year for air passenger transport in the EU, with over 1 billion passengers being carried, meaning there were roughly 71 million more than 2016. Overall, there was a 9% rise in passengers carried outside the EU, as well as a 7% increase within the EU.

In Malta’s case, 5,497,000 passengers were carried within the EU, while 511,000 were ‘extra-EU passengers.

Europe’s busiest passenger airports were Heathrow in London, Charles de Gaulle in Paris, and Schiphol in Amsterdam.
