The Minister for Energy Joe Mizzi has announced that Malta will be partnering with China in energy and water research. This was declared when Mizzi signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Wang Huaming, the General Manager of Shanghai Electric Power, in China.

This collaboration means that Maltese and Chinese entities will be working towards the development of innovative technologies like smart grids, the production of alternative energy, and technologies regarding the production and management of water.

Mizzi stated that this collaboration will sustain Malta’s leading position in the use of innovative, efficient and sustainable technologies in the water and energy sectors.

This step is being deemed as necessary, especially since Malta had the highest primary energy consumption in the European Union in 2017.
