The extension of the premises of the Malta Medicines Authority was inaugurated at the Life Sciences Park in San Ġwann. The extension is dedicated to Michael Chetcuti, an exemplary and intelligent medicine assessor who passed away six months ago. His relatives were present at the inauguration.
Professor Seracino Inglott said that the Directorate for Advanced Scientific Initiatives was established to enhance the acumen of the Authority and to lead in advanced initiatives in line with developments occurring in Malta and in Europe, including regulating medical cannabis. The discussions are ongoing with local and international stakeholders in order to ensure the quality and safety of medical cannabis from seed to patient.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Consumer Protection Deo Debattista said that the Malta Medicines Authority was recognized by the European Regulatory Network and the US Food and Drug Administration for its professional and scientific standards.
