Prospective medical doctors and pharmacy students studying at the University of Malta who are active in clinical settings are to be given priority for vaccination against Covid-19, the university has confirmed.

In a letter to M.D. students who are in the clinical years – the course starts with a preclinical phase – as well as pharmacy students at bachelor, masters and doctoral level, the University said that the decision was reached following discussions it held with the health authorities.

The news was welcomed by the Kunsill Studenti Universitarji, but the students’ council expressed its hope that the decision would be expanded to cover all the university’s healthcare students, including those at the Faculty of Health Scientists and the Faculty of Dental Surgery, “so as to ensure the safety of students and patients, and the successful continuation of students’ studies.”
