‘Local councils have a duty to invest in their communities’ – Parnis

‘Local councils are the entities closest to the citizen and have a duty to invest in our communities.’, Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government and Communities Silvio Parnis, has told a seminar on funding for local councils.

Parnis was addressing an information seminar for local councils on the Development Planning Fund, a fund which aims to provide support towards improvement an embellishment works which are benefit to the local community.

It is understood that the fund will allow councils to receive around 30% of a project’s funding up front, which allows them carry out the project.

The sesson was aim at delivering more information on how local councils could apply for the funds.

According to the Parliamentary Secretary, since the launch of the Development Planning Fund in 2017, it had allocated €7.5 million to projects submitted by local councils. A further €29 million is currently still available, according to Mr Parnis.
