On 103: President’s decision – from frying pan into the fire?

Tista' taqra bil- Malti.

Last February President George Vella said that he would relieve Adrian Delia of the duties of Leader of the Opposition if he loses the trust of the majority of MPs of the PN. But on Monday, he decided that Delia should stay on as Leader of the Opposition even though the majority of his MPs passed a vote of no confidence in him.

Is the Constitution clear enough or was it shoddily written? Has a problem been solved but a worse once created?

These and other questions will be discussed during Newsbook Hour on 103 Malta’s Heart and Newsbook.com.mt at 1pm. The anchor of the flagship current affairs programme, Jesmond Saliba, together with Editor-in-Chief Sylvana Debono will discuss this question with a number of guests.

Expert of constitutional law Dr Austin Bencini strongly believes that the President took the wrong decision. Last Friday, he was one of the three experts who said that the President has the right to dismiss Delia and appoint a new Leader of the Opposition. On the other hand, lawyer Chris Bonett has a different opinion.

The programme will also feature other opinions, will review comments and editorials in newspapers and air a number of clips about the subject. Today Tuesday at 1pm on 103 Malta’s Heart and Newsbook.com.mt.
