  • A witness, a man, has testified in court how he saw the accused hit the victim
  • The same witness said he stopped driving because he saw a woman getting beaten
  • He said he approached the woman who was lying on the ground with a knife stuck to her head
  • A Police officer testifies that the accused entered the Depot in shock but calm

A 33-year-old man from Safi is being accused of stabbing and killing Chantelle Chetcuti.

The man was arraigned in court last week before Magistrate Charmaine Galea. The man pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. The alleged aggressor is the victim’s former partner.

The murder took place at around 8 pm on Sunday 2nd February in Triq il-Kbira, Żabbar.

The man was accused of Chetcuti’s murder. He was also accused of carrying a knife during the commission of a crime against the person, of carrying a knife without the necessary permit, being in possession of cocaine and breaching public peace.

14:00 The Police officer mentions that the accused was taken to the hospital after he went to the depot. The Police searched the man and found he was in possession of two sachets of illegal substance. She also mentions that close to where the murder took place there are CCTV cameras.

13:55 He said that he saw the accused walk to his car. "He was not even running" – said the witness.

13:52 The man says that he saw the accused hit the woman. Then walked closer to the woman and saw she was stabbed with a knife in her head. He entered a bar screaming for help and for someone to call an ambulance.

13:46 The Police officer is saying that the accused was in shock but was calm and was covered in blood. He then says that the control room sent the RIU and an ambulance on the crime scene. The accused was sent to hospital.
