A 33-year-old man from Safi is being accused of stabbing and killing Chantelle Chetcuti.
The man was arraigned in court last week before Magistrate Charmaine Galea. The man pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. The alleged aggressor is the victim’s former partner.
The man was accused of Chetcuti’s murder. He was also accused of carrying a knife during the commission of a crime against the person, of carrying a knife without the necessary permit, being in possession of cocaine and breaching public peace.

Prosecution states that there are at least 8 Police officers who have to give their testimony.
The Court appoints Dr Marisa Mifsud to provide a transcript of the interrogation the accused was subject to.
The Police officer mentions that the accused was taken to the hospital after he went to the depot. The Police searched the man and found he was in possession of two sachets of illegal substance. She also mentions that close to where the murder took place there are CCTV cameras.
Another Police Officer took the stand to testify.
He also says he saw the woman raising her hands and grabbing her head.
He said that he saw the accused walk to his car. "He was not even running" – said the witness.
The man says that he saw the accused hit the woman. Then walked closer to the woman and saw she was stabbed with a knife in her head. He entered a bar screaming for help and for someone to call an ambulance.
He said he saw a man beating a woman. Decided to stop the car and told the children he had with him to stay in the car.
Next to take the stand in court is a man who said he was driving by at the time of the murder.
The Police officer is saying that the accused was in shock but was calm and was covered in blood. He then says that the control room sent the RIU and an ambulance on the crime scene. The accused was sent to hospital.
The Police Officer says that at around 8:20 pm on Sunday 2nd February a man, the accused, entered the Depot saying that he had just killed his partner.
Next to take the stand to testify is a Police Officer who was working at the Police Depot on Sunday 2nd February.
Silvan Medina mentions that Chantelle Chetcuti was playing billiard and the accused was going around her to talk to her.
Medina testifies that the accused had asked him if he could talk to Chantelle and he replied that he did not want to be part of their issues.
"After a few seconds, a man came in the bar shouting for someone to call an ambulance" – said Medina.
Medina explains that at a certain point in time Chantelle exits the bar and the accused followed her.
Silvan Medina says that after a while, they were still at the bar and the accused came in asking Chantelle to talk to her. Medina says Chantelle refused to speak to him.
Medina explains that that evening he entered the bar with Chantelle Chetcuti between 5 pm and 6 pm. Mentions a certain Dylan and says that Chantelle had told him that if this Dylan is here then probably her ex will know she is at that bar.
Mr Silvan Medina is asked to take the stand to testify. Medina was present on the eve of the murder in Zabbar.
