Opposition Leader nominee, MP Dr Therese Comodini Cachia, arrived at San Anton Palace at around 3.15pm on Friday afternoon to meet President George Vella.
She was greeted by a group of people who had been gathering outside the palace since 2.30pm and were here to show their support for her nomination as Opposition Leader. Comodini Cachia held a meeting with President Vella which lasted about 30 minutes.
Dr Comodini Cachia was nominated by fellow Opposition MPs as the MP that enjoys the support of most of the parliamentary group after Partit Nazzjonalista leader Dr Adrian Delia lost a confidence vote on Tuesday night with 17 votes to 11.
MPs Chris Said and Claudette Buttigieg visited President George Vella on Thursday afternoon to inform him that Dr Delia no longer enjoys the support of the majority of the parliamentary group and that they were nominating Dr Comodini Cachia in his stead, triggering Article 90(4) of the Constitution which provides for the removal of the Opposition Leader.
On Thursday afternoon, President Vella met with some MPs. President Vella continued meeting Opposition MPs through Friday.
