On Thursday two new cases were confirmed and six more people have recovered, as announced by the Superintendent for Public Health Prof. Charmaine Gauci.
The press conference ends here. Thank you for following us!
Prof. Gauci reiterated her appeal to the public to stay home and stay safe.
There will be positive cases where the persons did not show any symptoms and that is why social distancing is important, said Prof. Gauci.
Journalists are mentioning a number of reports they have received of elderly going out for walk or shopping. Prof. Gauci said that the elderly are still considered as vulnerable and must avoid going out.
She also explained that the time will come when they can lift certain measures which can bring our lives back to the 'new normality'
Prof. Gauci reiterated her appeal that children should not make contact with the elderly as children can carry and transmit the virus.
The reason why the number of positive cases is being kept under control is because authorities have implemented a set of measures at the same time, said Prof. Gauci.
The Superintendent for Public Health is explaining that enhanced testing is being carried out amongst front liners too in order to make sure that if they are positive they do not transmit COVID-19.
She also explained that authorities are analysing the impact of the relaxed measures announced on the 1st of May and came into effect last Monday.
Prof. Gauci is explaining that the number of measures which have been relaxed by authorities are considered as not being high risk which could lead to an increase in virus transmission.
413 is the number of people who have recovered as 6 more have recovered from coronavirus in the past 24 hours.
Prof. Gauci explained how the authorities are managing to keep the number of positive cases low especially by protecting the most vulnerable.
The new cases: 2 women. One of the cases was of a mother who took her daughter to get tested, The daughter's test came back negative and the mother's was positive.
The total number of swab tests in the past 24 hours: 1,022
