Ex-Member of Italian Parliament Lara Comi is currently under house arrest, in her home just outside Milan. This in relation to a case where she’s being accused of bribery and illicit use of public funds.

Magistrate Raffaella Mascarino has asked for Comi’s arrest a few hours ago. She said that even though Comi is young, she has still managed to find a way to use public funds for her own personal benefit. Comi is being accused of raising her employees’ wages by €3,000, €2,000 of which needed to be paid back to Forza Italia.

She also stands accused of having received an illegal loan of €31,000. The payment was meant to be placed for the electoral campaign for the European Parliament.

Comi is a member of Forza Italia and was elected in the European Parliament for the first time in 2009, when she was 26 years old. In May’s elections, she was not re-elected since her seat was taken by the leader of the party, Silvio Berlusconi.
