Independent candidate Arnold Cassola said that Lands Authority informed him that the Federation of Hunting and Conservation (FKNK) has no title to Miżieb and Aħrax tal-Mellieħa.
In a brief statement this morning, Cassola informed the media that the answer he received to his Freedom of Information request from the Lands Authority was clear.
It said, “To date, no agreement/concession/lease/emphyteusis/title of ownership/encroachment/possession/mere tolerance management and/or services and/or consultancy agreement has been entered into between the GPD and/or the Lands Authority and the FKNK”.
Cassola concluded, “The proposal by a certain minister to hand over such lands for management by FKNK serves as confirmation that the public’s right to open spaces is not important to this government and that only bullies rule.”
Just over a week ago, a group of NGOs asked the government to immediately publish the full terms of any agreement regarding the transfer of the Miżieb and Aħrax open spaces to the Federation of Hunting and Conservation (FKNK), which was revealed earlier on in the week through the media, much to the public’s disgust.
