“Europe is blind and deaf to the massacre”

Francesco Rocca, the President of the International Federation ofr the Red Cross and Red Crescent said that  in front of the massacre, Europe is blind and deaf whilst referring to immigration in the Mediterranean.

He gave an interview to Avvenire.

In his replies, Rocca questioned what makes Libya a safe country that respects human dignity. He said while the Libyan Coast Guard may be strengthen, the country is still far from being considered a safe country also due to the fact that the Authorities have yet to sign the Geneva Convention.

Rocca argued that the massacre in the Mediterranean is on going and that Europe is incapable of prioritizing the principals of humanity and solidarity. He urged from a common European response in front of this human tragedy.
