The University Student Council (KSU) has cancelled its Freshers’ Week at the University usually organised in October due to the recent spike in active COVID-19 cases.

KSU President Matthew Xuereb emailed University student organisations announcing the news this morning.

In his email, Xuereb said that the decision was taken after KSU saw the increase in coronavirus cases in Malta in recent days. He stated that he understands that the organisations will be affected by this drastic decision, but promised that KSU is trying to find a safe alternative for everyone.

In the afternoon, the organisation also shared the news on Facebook, where it stated that should the situation in the second semester improve, an alternative opportunity similar to Freshers’ Week in that period will be considered.

Nevertheless, the Council looks forward to welcoming all Freshers this year through other initiatives.
