Former chief of staff Keith Schembri has failed to turn up in court for a hearing in a libel suit on Monday morning. His lawyer Andrew Sciberras, however, turned up and declared in court that he has renounced his brief.
Schembri had filed a libel suit against The Malta Independent, after the newspaper published a story titled “Three quarters of a million transferred into PM’s Chief of Staff BVI company in 2014.” on September 15, 2016.
His lawyer informed Magistrate Victor Axiaq that he was renouncing the brief.
The case was put off to 27 January to give Schembri time to engage another lawyer.
