Keith Schembri and his family travelling out of the country

Disgraced Chief of Staff Keith Schembri was spotted in the VIP lounge at the Malta International Airport with his family earlier this afternoon.

Sources have told that Schembri along with his family boarded flight FR3401 to Bologna at 6.15pm.

According to the police, Schembri is subject of an investigation over the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. He is also being investigated in relation to the phantom job given to self-confessed middleman Melvin Theuma and tampering of evidence.

Last month, Schembri was arrested and interrogated, however, he was released within 48 hours without charge.

An arrest warrant against Schembri was issued by court order on 17 December, when he failed to appear to testify in a constitutional case by Fenech. He later claimed that he was not aware of the case and went to court in the court’s officer’s car.

During the compilation of evidence against Caruana Galizia murder suspect Yorgen Fenech, Chief Investigator Keith Arnaud said that Schembri did not hand over his phone to the police since it was lost. Schembri also refused to give his passwords to the police on grounds that his email and cloud contained sensitive work related emails.

Times of Malta reported that Schembri’s legal team sought police permission to travel abroad to Italy before leaving the country.
