‘Justice for Daphne, means Justice for Press Freedom’ – Il-Kenniesa

Rule of law NGO Il-Kenniesa, is calling on everyone to defend and support press freedom, adding that it is essential for our functioning democracy.

Il-Kenniesa made the comments to mark World Press Freedom Day, a day recognising the importance of free press and the responsibility of government to uphold and safeguard freedom of speech.

At the event outside the law courts in Valletta, the NGO placed ‘Flowers of Justice’ to recognise the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and many like her who have faced threats, harassment and violence for their work.

It has been almost 600 days since her murder with no independent inquiry into whether her death could have been prevented and the underlining factors which drove her murder, Il-Kenniesa says.
