Judicial protest filed against C-Planet IT

Civil Society group Repubblika and the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation filed a judicial protest against C-Planet IT Solutions Limited for alleged breach of data protection laws.

The Labour Party was notified of the judicial protest filed.

A massive data leak which has originated from Partit Laburista shows the voting preference of the majority of the population.

The company at the centre of the issue was C-Planet IT Solutions Ltd. Its owner is Philip Farrugia, an ex-production director at the Partit Laburista’s One Productions.

Newsbook.com.mt revealed that the same IT company C Planet Solutions operated a system for the law firm SZA were Parliamentary Secretary Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi was a partner prior to being appointed as a junior minister.

The Data Protection Commissioner is investigating the case.

By filing this judicial protest the civil society group Repubblika and the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation started a legal process in the name of over 330,000 individuals who ended up victims of the leaked data. They said that their aim is that all those responsible must pay the price as they have violated the privacy of thousands of individuals.

In their statement, they also said that the issued is not only about privacy but it is not acceptable that a political party uses such data to manipulate a democratic process of a general election.

Repubblika and the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation are inviting the general public especially those who had their personal details leaked to register by filling in the collective action form.
