The late Joseph Bellia painted mainly Maltese landscapes in bright exuberant colours and was described by art critic Emmanuel Fiorentino as “one of the most consistent exponents of Maltese landscapes.”
This exhibition of comes 20 years after his death and is being held in conjunction with Flimkien għal Ambient Aħar, at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura till the 12 December.
Many of his landscapes are painted in a luminous palette with sun drenched colours depicting overlooked corners of Malta in an identifiable yet personal style.
Bellia also painted female nudes, and still lifes.
