Jean Claude Micallef elected to parliament

TV host Jean-Claude Micallef has been elected as Labour MP, replacing Commissioner Helena Dalli on the third district. The former Equality Minister was appointed as European Commissioner a few weeks ago. Micallef received 1887 votes beating former Marsascala Mayor Mario Calleja who obtained 1773 votes.

Micallef, formerly a member of the PN executive and a presenter on Net TV turned his political coat in 2013 following rumoured disagreements with the directors of the PN Media directors. He contested the 2017 election and currently presents a program on TVM.

The son of One TV broadcaster Manuel Micallef, Jean Claude Micallef is expected to be sworn in when Parliament reconvenes on January 20.
