A group of 28 asylum seekers who found themselves in difficulty in the Maltese search and rescue region were rescued by the Italian authorities, migrant hotline Alarm Phone reported on Monday.
The asylum seekers were taken to the island of Lampedusa.
On Twitter, Alarm Phone condemned the Maltese authorities for not offering assistance to the asylum seekers in distress. It also condemned the lack of information regarding search and rescue operations conducted by the Maltese and Italian authorities.
The group had contacted Alarm Phone on Sunday afternoon saying that it ran out of fuel.
