Italy has registered 37,242 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, the country’s health ministry announced on Friday.
699 coronavirus-related were also registered, up from 653 reported on the previous day.
The chief of the Italian National Institute of Health, Silvio Brusaferro, said the pandemic was “everywhere” but the infection curve was beginning to flatten.
Almost 34,000 people across the country have been admitted to hospital with Covid-19, of whom 3,748 are in intensive care.
Lombardy remained the hardest hit area on Friday, reporting 9,221 new cases while the southern region of Campania, which has only about 60% of Lombardy’s population, chalked up the second highest number of new cases, at 4,226.
