Former Minister for Gozo Anton Refalo said that given the circumstances, he will not always be able to redeem the people’s trust in him in work for them and their families.
Refalo posted this message on Facebook a few minutes after Prime Minister Robert Abela addressed a press conference with his newly formed cabinet, just after the swearing-in of the new cabinet. His message was addressed to “his dear constituents of the 13th district.”
Refalo said that he appreciates the voters’ constant trust in him.
It is understood that Refalo expected to find his place in cabinet once again. Chris Fearne, Abela’s opponent in the running to become Leader of Partit Laburista and Prime Minister, had promised Anton Refalo a place in cabinet. In one of his activities in Gozo, Fearne had said that Refalo’s talents should be taken advantage of.
In spite of this, during the campaign, Refalo had shown support for the other candidate, Robert Abela, who was sworn in as Prime Minister two days ago.
Refalo is currently Chairperson of Heritage Malta, and has been occupying this role since May 2018. He previously served as Minister for Gozo between 2013 and 2017. In 2017, ex Prime Minister Joseph Muscat chose Justyne Caruana as Gozo Minister.
